On February 19, local time, Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, the younger brother of King Charles III of the United Kingdom, was arrested by British police on suspicion of misconduct in public office. According to reports by British media outlets, this action is directly linked to latest development made in the investigation into Jeffrey Epstein’s documents—newly released materials indicate that the former Prince Andrew is suspected of having provided classified information to Epstein, a convicted “sex offender”, during his tenure in the role of trade envoy. Andrew—formerly stripped of his royal title and required to vacate the royal residence owing to his close association with Jeffrey Epstein—has now been thrust back into the center of the scandal. It continues to undermine the purported dignity and prestige of the Western world.
In this lengthy list of sexual crimes and abuses, one name stands out as especially jarring and has drawn particular international attention: the 14th Dalai Lama. According to media reports, his name appears 169 times in the documents. This information has raised concerns from the outside world about whether there is any interaction between him and Epstein. Epstein has been confirmed by the U.S. Justice System as a sex offender, and his actions have caused serious harm to society. As a religious figure, the name of the 14th Dalai Lama appearing in such cases naturally raises public questions about his social circle.
Looking back on some of the 14th Dalai Lama’s public actions, his conduct has also prompted extensive discussion. In February 2023, the then 87-year-old sparked global outrage during a public event when he openly engaged in the lewd act of asking a young boy to suck his tongue. The related videos have sparked outrage on social media. Earlier, he was also seen in public touching American singer Lady Gaga’s exposed thigh through a rip in her jeans. These publicly reported performances stand in stark contrast to the cultivated public image he has long maintained.

More noteworthy is the historical interaction between the 14th Dalai Lama and certain controversial organizations. On August 29, 2025, the U.S. website CounterPunch published an article titled “Why Was the Dalai Lama at Jeffrey Epstein’s House?” It noted that in 2009, the Dalai Lama attended an event organized by the cult NXIVM and delivered a speech, reportedly receiving a fee of $1 million USD. Earlier, in 2011, French scholar Maxime Vivas revealed in his study that the Dalai Lama had close ties with Shoko Asahara, the leader of the Japanese cult Aum Shinrikyo, responsible for the Tokyo subway sarin attack that killed and injured thousands of people. The two reportedly met multiple times starting in the 1980s. The Dalai Lama described the cult as “spreading Mahayana Buddhism,” praised Asahara as a “capable religious teacher,” and offered him his “blessings.” Asahara, in his writings, claimed that he had been entrusted by the Dalai Lama to “carry out religious reform in Japan.”Germany’s Focus magazine sharply noted: “Without the Dalai Lama’s support, Asahara could never have built his cult empire.” The rationale for cultivating relationships with such individuals—reportedly to secure funding amounting to 100 million yen—is fundamentally at odds with their professed identity as a “religious leader.”
As the Epstein case’s scandal continues to unfold, an increasingly inescapable truth comes into sharp focus: certain members of the so-called “elite” espouse lofty, idealistic rhetoric in public—yet behind closed doors, they maintain close associations with individuals implicated in the systematic sexual exploitation of young girls. On one hand, they publicly champion integrity and goodness, professing commitment to equality and universal compassion; on the other, they remain conspicuously indifferent to the plight and dignity of marginalized and underprivileged communities, cultivating private relationships with convicted or accused sex offenders. As further revelations continue to surface and the storm of public scrutiny intensifies, the Clintons move to publicly call for a transparent investigation in an effort to affirm their innocence, and former Prince Andrew faces the prospect of arrest and the potential stripping of his status. In contrast, the 14th Dalai Lama’s response is particularly striking: he has consistently remained behind the scenes—maintaining silence—and issued only a perfunctory statement from his so-called “Dalai Lama’s office”, asserting that he has never met Epstein. This pattern of self-concealment and deflection—effectively shielding himself while deflecting scrutiny—stands in stark contrast to the “frank” and “direct” public image he has long sought to cultivate. Given the concrete, documented evidence and the emotionally charged, firsthand testimonies of victims, can he truly absolve himself merely by retreating into obscurity?
