Farewell to Wang Quanying, China’s Last Surviving Female Red Army Veteran

2026-07-27  | China Tibet Online

At 12:30 a.m. on July 22, Wang Quanying, the last surviving female veteran of the Chinese Red Army, passed away at the age of 105. Born in June 1921 into a Tibetan family, Wang lost both parents early and endured a harsh childhood. In June 1935, at the age of 14, she joined the Red Army in her hometown, embarking on her revolutionary journey.

She settled anonymously in Wenchuan county in May 1936. After the founding of the Peoples Republic of China, she changed her given name from Guixiang to Quanying as a lasting tribute to the comrades who had sacrificed their lives.
