On July 28, 345 medical volunteers participating in the 2026 “Bringing Hearts Together” Medical Charity Campaign traveled to four counties in southern Garze, Sichuan Province, to provide free medical consultations. The volunteer team brought together specialists in cardiology, neurology, respiratory medicine, orthopedics, obstetrics and gynecology, traditional Chinese medicine, and other disciplines. Medical services were provided at 35 locations, including county hospitals, township health centers, nursing homes and monasteries. 

The outreach program extended quality healthcare services to the community level, making medical care more accessible for elderly residents, people with limited mobility and other vulnerable groups. Medical volunteers visited a nursing home, where specialists provide bedside consultations for residents with limited mobility, bringing healthcare services directly to those in need. 

Huang Jie, a doctor from Cangzhou People’s Hospital, encountered a community doctor who had been serving the local area for 33 years while providing free medical consultations at a monastery. The doctor helped interpret for patients throughout the afternoon. It was not until all the residents had left that he finally sat down and shared his own health concerns, including stomach problems and knee issues. “He took care of everyone else before remembering to look after himself,” Huang Jie said, deeply moved. 

Doctors stayed busy attending to patients, bringing quality care directly to communities. These face-to-face interactions not only responded to people’s expectations for better health, but also built trust between medical staff and residents across mountains and distances.  

Their dedication ensured timely diagnoses and treatments, especially in areas where access to hospitals remained limited. Through consistent outreach and personalized attention, they helped bridge gaps in healthcare equity and reinforced the importance of preventive care within underserved populations.
