Wang Huning, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), made an inspection tour in Chengdu and Deyang cities and the Garze Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture in southwest China’s Sichuan Province from Oct. 13 to 16. He said it is necessary to follow Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era and thoroughly implement the guiding principles of the fourth plenary session of the 20th CPC Central Committee. Efforts should focus on pooling strength for development during the 15th Five-Year Plan period (2026-2030) and advancing Chinese modernization. Solid efforts should be made to forge a strong sense of community for the Chinese nation and advance the building of that community, while making systematic efforts to ensure that religions in China conform to China’s realities and establishing a more solid legal footing for the governance of religious affairs, thereby consolidating and further developing a favorable situation featuring ethnic harmony, religious harmony and social harmony.

Wang visited universities and secondary schools, subdistricts and communities, museums and other cultural venues to learn about research on forging a strong sense of community for the Chinese nation, initiatives to promote ethnic unity and progress, educational assistance and cooperation in ethnic minority regions, and the protection and utilization of cultural relics. Wang stressed upholding the main line of forging a strong sense of community for the Chinese nation and recognizing ethnic unity as a lifeline. Requirements for building a shared spiritual home, promoting exchanges, interactions and integration, and advancing common prosperity and development should be implemented across all areas, including the economy, education, employment, community development, cultural development, and initiatives to promote ethnic unity and progress. These efforts should also be incorporated into Party building at the community level to further strengthen people’s sense of identity with the motherland, the Chinese nation, Chinese culture, the CPC, and socialism with Chinese characteristics. Wang stressed advancing the implementation of the Ethnic Unity and Progress Promotion Law, upholding the rule of law in both thinking and practice to handle ethnic affairs, and safeguarding ethnic unity in accordance with the law. He called for deeper research into major fundamental issues concerning the community for the Chinese nation and stronger efforts to protect and utilize historical and cultural resources, showcasing the pluralistic and integrated character of Chinese civilization. Wang called for supporting and promoting economic and social development in ethnic regions so that people of all ethnic groups can lead better lives.

Wang visited religious venues to learn about efforts to ensure that religions in China conform to China’s realities. He said it is necessary to uphold core socialist values as guidelines, promote the integration of religions in China with fine traditional Chinese culture, and provide guidance for their adaptation to socialist society. He also called for improving the management of religious affairs under the rule of law and maintaining harmony and stability in the religious field.

Wang visited the offices of the Sichuan Provincial Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) and the Sertar County Committee of the CPPCC to learn about CPPCC work and meet with CPPCC members and representatives of officials and staff from the CPPCC offices. Wang called for upholding the Party’s overall leadership over the CPPCC and giving play to the CPPCC’s role as a specialized consultative body. He also called for rallying public support, building consensus, pooling wisdom and gathering strength, and stressed solid efforts to conduct political consultation, democratic oversight, and participation in and deliberation of state affairs.

During the inspection tour, Wang also visited Tianfu New Area, relevant scientific research institutions and Taiwan-funded enterprises. Li Ganjie joined the inspection tour.
