From September 13 to 15, Tashilhunpo Monastery in Xigaze City, SW China’s Xizang Autonomous Region, held a Cham dance ritual, praying for peace, prosperity and favorable weather.

“Cham” is a religious dance performed by Buddhist monks. Originally known as the “Vajra Dance,” it is a ritual dance of Tibetan Buddhism and one of the most representative forms of Tibetan Buddhist art.  

Among the various Cham performances, the dance at Tashilhunpo Monastery is renowned far and wide. In 2006, it was included in the first batch of China’s national-level intangible cultural heritage.
